Nga Manu Race 5

Another new circuit bought on by the changes to Park Ave forcing us to look elsewhere.

The map below is only indicative because the roads are so new that they aren't on the map I was mapping them from - so I've had to guess where the streets go now :)

It's a roughly 2.3km course.  Nice wide roads and very very little traffic.  There are only 3 houses and the Nga Manu Nature Reserve (which will be closed when we are there).

The course itself will be different again from what we are used to - with lots of corners and accellerations that will add a different dimension.   We'll all have new strings to our bows after this season!

The races at Nga Manu will make up our Summer Series and will be graded with a series winner in each grade - so keep training hard to keep up with those in your grade who'll be doing the same.

Race Details:

We will run 4 grades on this circuit.

D Grade will go at 6 pm and run for 25 minutes + 1 lap

C, B and A grades will start at 6:30 pm (at the conclusion of the D grade race) and will all have the same timing.  The A grade will start first with B grade a very short while later and C grade shortly after that.   After 50 minutes of racing (from when the A grade started), everyone will get a whistle to let you know there are 2 laps left and you will get the bell on the next lap - with 1 lap to go.

It's graded racing - so you are only racing against the group you started with.  You absolutely cannot jump into any group that passes you.

The cost to race is $5 for a club member and $10 for a non-member. We will no longer require a Cycling NZ licence to compete in our club racing, but we will require you to be a paid-up member of a cycling club unless you are using the 3 ride grace period to try out racing.

To members of other clubs who regularly compete in our events, it is worthwhile considering taking out a secondary membership with us as you will save $5 every event you race in.  It won't take much racing to have a "free" membership or at least one at a highly reduced cost

Series Points:

  • - Each rider will collect 1 point for starting a race.
  • - The first 5 places in each grade will receive additional points (1st 5 points, 2nd 4 pts, 3rd 3pts, 4th 2 pts and 5th 1pt)
  • - Marshals (who don't race) will receive 3 pts (this can only be collected once) (if you get someone to marshal for you - well done - but sorry that does not count to points - we're all about sweat equity (see the next bullet point :))
  • - There are extra bonus points for helping with the organisation of the races...  registration, setting up the cones, helping take down the cones, etc.  (this has to be a concerted effort - picking up one cone does not count - however, if you spend at least 20 mins helping then you are more than eligible for the extra points).   There is half a point available at each race for assistance with organising...  This might sound a bit frivolous - but there is a serious amount of work that goes into putting on races - and we need everybody pitching in.  If a lot of us help - then it lightens the load for everyone and we don't get burn-out of the few who do the lions' share every week.
