Week 10 – Nutrition

  • Eat before you are hungry
  • Drink before you are thirsty
  • Have a nutrition strategy that you’ve tried and know works
  • Practice nutrition strategies on group rides and find what works for you

Keywords:  Tried and true

Practice

This week’s skills session involves eating – what could be a better combo; bikes and food?! We’ll also brush up on a couple of things we’ve tried previously, just for the laughs.

The Route This Week: This week it's a pretty flat 55km up to Otaki and back - including our first foray onto the beautiful surface of the expressway.

So, we’ll be taking the route along Mazengarb Avenue and into Otaihanga and Waikanae. Turn Left out of the reserve and we’ll get onto Tutere Street, taking a Right along here a bit to head straight up Te Moana Road. Once on Old SH1 we’ll head for the Te Horo loop and Te Waka Road through to Otaki.

North a few hundy metres, cross the main road to Otaki Gorge Road and ride the lovely new section Old Hautere Road, back onto Otaki Gorge Road, Right onto Te Horo Hautere Cross Road, and through to School Road.

As I said above, we’re going to head back to Waikanae by taking a straight run down the main road and onto the expressway. We’ll chat about it just prior and remind ourselves to take extra care and employ good hand signals crossing the slip-road as we link onto the expressway proper. It’s OK to stop and wait for a good gap in traffic 😊 The expressway really is a dream to ride, so if you haven’t done so yet, you’re in for a treat – especially as we’re likely going to have a nice tail-wind.

From here we’ll head to Long Beach for a well-deserved coffee and a lie down (well maybe just a sit down).

Weather

We are predicted a cloudy day with some NW winds giving us our nice run home. It won’t be particularly warm so remember a jacket or something warm-ish.

See you Sunday,

Glynis and Adrian
