Howdy all.

In a fantastic piece of news, the council has formally adopted the plan for the development of Otaraua Park.

No automatic alt text available.

This means the multi-purpose sports circuit that we've proposed to the council and have been working on for the last 5 years, now has the green light to come to fruition.   The council voted nearly unanimously for the plan (there was one vote against) and are excited by the prospects, as are we.

So a huge thank you to all those who submitted support to the long-term plan several years back (they were surprised by the level of support) and to all those who responded to the recent survey.

It marks a massive milestone for this park and development.  Until now we have been unable to start raising funds for the circuit, but this vote secures the council backing of this proposal and they will work with the core group we have developed of representatives of multiple sports and clubs and groups.   We will also look to expand this group.  We want the use of this circuit to be as inclusive as possible.

So while it's fantastic to get here (and I am filled with pride that we have got here), there is much work to now be done.  But we'll go about that enthusiastically.   I'll keep you posted as to goings-on.

But for now...   WAHOOO!!!!!!

What else is going on?

The Christmas BBQ is coming up - so bring your good selves and families for a relaxing afternoon/evening in the sun.  We have plenty of space and all are welcome.  Check out the details HERE.

Don't forget the fun of the Akas Hill climb event next week.  I'll update the calendar article shortly with details of where to start and when etc.

The November Climbing Challenge as part of the Strava King and Queen of Kapiti challenges was a nice success with a good number of crazy people taking on the 3 climbs - sometimes in less than salubrious conditions - just to sneak under the deadline.   We will have another series of challenges coming up in February - something for the Rouleur rather than the Grimpeur this time so look out for that.  Click HERE To see the results and more about the Strava Kings and Queens of Kapiti Challenges

Membership...  the membership year ends on the 31st December.  If you renew from now though - you get a 2019 membership through to the end of next year.   Please support the club as we need a good membership base to keep putting on the activities we do.  Click HERE to see the options and to renew or join.

The numbers we are seeing at events are a little disappointing at the moment.  It's hard to spend hours setting up courses and providing managers and marshals when not many people are attending.   We are going to set up a workshop in the new year to talk to selected members and past members and try and garner what it is that people are after and how we can better cater to people's needs.  In the meantime - PLEASE COME TO OUR EVENTS!  There are levels for absolutely everyone and it's a safe and friendly and inclusive environment where you can grow.

We are moving to the very safe and fun Southwards Car Museum circuit first thing in the new year.   We will also be holding a social open night on the 29th of January.   There will be a social "Kruzer" grade for people to come and ride the spectacular circuit in a totally non-competitive way.  And we will put on a BBQ and some drinks and the whole night will be a fundraiser for the Wellington Free Ambulance.  After the social ride - there will be our regular graded events for people to watch while they are having their BBQ.

There's also another Big Day Out in the planning and another Drop of Thanks biscuit drop being planned for the new year.

Plenty to get into.  Please get involved.

Merry Christmas everyone.
