North Island Race Series – Race 4

Race Four saw the riders tackle an 80km course north of Masterton which include Dryers Rock. The day dawned chilly with a couple of unwelcome showers but soon warmed up by race start.

The two Kapiti Teams, six riders in M2 and four in M3, were well primed for a good performance in what the organiser described as the Queen’s Stage with a nasty uphill finish.

The M3 race was uneventful until the final ascent up the steep side of Dryers Rock when the hammer went down. A group of about twelve riders established a break down the fast descent. For some inexplicable reason the pace dropped allowing the chasers to re-join the group for the finale.

With our four riders in the front group, all working well together to set up for the furious uphill sprint. Andrew gained a very credible 5th closely followed by Richard and Peter, Greg was close behind to complete an excellent team performance.
