Trust House NI Race Series – Race Two

The second race in the popular race series was held over 82 kms of a testing profile in cold and very blustery conditions. The race over an out and back course started in Martinborough with the turn on the Ngawi Road.

Kapiti CC had two teams competing with one in Masters Two and the second in Masters Three. The early showers eased at the start although the strong southerly persisted until the return leg resulting in more of a battle against the conditions rather than against each other.

The races mainly remained “gruppeto compacto” until the turn towards Ngawi with the strong side winds splitting both pelotons into smaller groups. Unfortunately, Greg suffered an untimely puncture as the action started to hot up, a determined effort had Greg returning to the peloton but the hard effort proved costly as the race hit the main climb.  The welcomed strong tailwind home negated any further breakaways in the lead groups. Kapiti riders were prominent in both grades with strong performances in the final sprints, in Masters Three, Richard G lead out Peter W in the dash for the line with Peter gaining a very credible 5th. In the Masters Two Mike P rode strongly with an excellent 6th placing in a very strong grade.
