North Island Team Series-Race One

The Team Series race kicked off today with an 80km race around Lake Wairarapa starting and finishing in Featherston.

Kapiti Cycling Club was very well represented with two teams competing, one in Masters 2 and the second in Masters 3. It was good to not only see our club uniform prominent in the peloton but the aggressive racing from the two teams.

The race started in cold and blustry conditions as the three groups headed down the Western Access Road. In M3 Richard Graham rode strongly on or near the front throughout the race with a spirited attack over the top of Edge Hill only to be reeled in. With two riders away up the road, Greg, Andrew and James readied themselves for the bunch sprint for 3rd. An ealry lead out by Andrew with Greg on his wheel saw Greg taking a very credible 6th, Andrew in 10th, James 12th and Richard 16th after his earlier efforts. Overall a good start for the series.

Two other KCC riders racing for Optimal Racing saw Neil getting a very good 4th and Gary finishing in 24th.

In M2, a strong KCC group rode strongly playing an active role in the race, Mike finishing in 13th followed by Leon in 18th, Phil in 31st closely followed by Paul in 36th.Tod in 41st and Tony 55th. M2 proved to be a very competitive affair as one would expect.
