Kapiti Cycling Club Spring Series.

Event Two – Nga Manu Tuesday 6 th October 2020.

The second event in the ever popular KCC Spring Event Series on the safe but
challenging Nga Manu circuit was held under cloudy and breezy conditions ideal for
a cycling event.
First up was the Social Circuit event designed for riders wishing to experience group
riding under a non-competitive format, although riders had the option to ride hard
over the final lap. The twenty minutes plus one lap event was pace controlled by club
committee member Janice Hill. The mixed ability group included youngster Liam
Parkes, a first-time attendee.
The bell lap signalled the start of the final lap and the freedom to race for the finish
line if so wished. The “Dynamic Duo” Rob and Serena Scotcher powered to the line
to take home a family double.

Starters:

  • Rob Scotcher - 1st Place
  • Serena Scotcher - 1st Women
  • Helen Walker
  • Liam Parkes - Rider of the group
  • Penny Mikkleson

The Social Circuit event was soon followed by the Handicap Race for the more
experienced riders wishing for a hard hit out. The twenty-five minutes plus one lap
event certainly proved an exciting race. C Grade started first with nine starters before
the combined A and B grade eight riders started four minutes later. The C Grade
soon split up into smaller groups as they chased early breakaway rider Andy Ross. A
and B set a blistering pace to steadily reduce the nearly one lap lead given to C
Grade. Andy was reeled in as the group tried to stay away from the chasing A and B
grade.
The bell sounded at twenty five minutes with the chasers closing rapidly on C grade,
a blistering last lap resulted in Andy taking the win from evergreen John Pratt and
Georgie Clareburt with Miles Davies taking an amazing fourth place after storming
across to C Grade.
An exciting hard-fought race, well done all.
