The third race in the KCC Winter Race Series took place in ideal conditions, with warm sun and a
gentle breeze which lead to exciting racing across most of the grades.

The A grade blew up almost immediately, with 5 strong riders forming a break that was never going
to be caught. The bunch chased hard but despite holding the gap to only 20 seconds after the first
lap, they just couldn’t close it down. As the race entered into its final lap, the break away riders
splintered into ones and twos, with Dan Waluszewski showing Matt Webb-Smith a clean pair of
heels in the final sprint, with Daniel Shepherd rounding out the top three.

The B grade went against the trend, seemingly happy to roll to the finish for a bunch sprint, and so
a very large group of fresh riders came in together. Katie Richards was totally dominant once
again, with clear daylight between her and young Freddie Dosser in second and Mark Coburn in
third. If you tow her to the finish line boys, she’s going to blow your doors off every time…time to
rethink some tactics.

The C grade fractured into many small groups, with a strong group of three dominating the rest.
Once they had gone, there was no catching them, and they finished more than a minute ahead of
the group behind. James de Hair won the final sprint, with Aileen Campbell and Janice Hill in
second and third respectively.

Like many of the groups, D Grade blew apart. After the first three riders, it was pretty much down
to individuals who had been shelled one by one and struggled to the finish alone. John Pratt
cleared the sprint strongly, with Mikayla Joyce and Raine Chicksen rounding out the top three.

In the E grade, the tandem of Glynis Te Maipi-Kemp and Ernst Pretorius proved too strong for the
rest, leaving a trail of destruction behind. Dietrich Pretorius came in second, with Francis de Hair a
distant third.

Thanks to Andrew Anson, Adrian McKenzie, Tony Levaggi, James Cummings, Diana Borman and
Jason Gestro for marshalling. Glynis Te Maipi-Kemp and Ernst Pretorius ran the finishing chute.
Dave Downer set up and broke down the course cones etc. Thanks to you all, without you there
would be no racing.
