Southwards Criterium Series – Race 4

The ever popular and safe circuit around the Southwards estate proved to be a very hot affair, both weather wise and the racing. We invited the Kapiti Kruzers group to participate in a “come and try it” event and join us for a social get together and BBQ.

The Kruzers tackled the course with enthusiasm with Vic, Guy, Steve, Helen, Mick, Gary and Stephanie racing over 20 mins plus 2 x laps. Although classed as an intro event that did not stop Steve taking out line honours over Guy and Vic with Helen riding as strongly as ever not far behind with Mick and Stephanie completing the contingent.

Well done Kruzers, we were certainly pleased to see you all and wish to extend an invitation to our remaining two Southwards events.

The C and D grade

Proved to be very competitive with a strong field vying for honours. The 25 mins plus 2 x laps affair provided constant changes at the head of affairs before a late attack from Andy holding John R at bay in a close finish. John P took out 3rd from Lisa and Daniel in 5th.

1st Andy Ross

2nd John Rowlinson

3rd John Pratt

4th Lisa Horn

5th Danill

Gill, Howard, Dianna, Lyna, Clive and George finishing in the main peloton.

Young George provided the entertainment with his bicycle horn sounding every lap, this did not stop him from riding a strong event, excellent from the youngster.

The A and B grade

The appearance of club strongman Antony Nalder was certainly going to change the complexion of the event even when starting a lap behind the field. The peloton rode aggressively with an early showing from Cam before Antony made up the lap catching the field before ploughing through the field to hit the front to take another lap.

It now became a race for the minor placings, Dave D and Katie battled it out at the front with small battles going on behind. A good attacking race provided the spectators with an enjoyable event to watch.

1st Antony Nalder  (by 2 x laps)
