Oh my gosh, that was so much fun!

Tuesday night saw the first of the Southwards Series get underway on a lovely warm evening with near perfect conditions. There was a small turn out but all grades were covered and we had some new-to-Southwards starters in every grade bar the A Grade. I think it was a good night out for all concerned, with newcomers finding that the circuit is far less daunting than they first imagined, and the A Grade race coming down to a nail-biter of a finish between Pete and Myles after Pete made numerous attacks off the front. It was also a photo-finish in the B-Grade between Greg and Andrew.

If you’ve wondered about racing at Southwards please come along and try, it’s fast, exciting, safe and good fun to watch as well as ride. The corners and nice and sweeping and there's that pesky little hill that keeps everyone honest and adds some interest

Greg and Adam managed the night seemingly effortlessly, as well as getting a ride in, while Doug was our marshal for the entire evening; thanks so much Doug. Next week let’s share the marshal duty round a bit as that’s a long time to be standing in one spot. Greg and Doug also dealt with setting up and taking down all course cones and signage. What this team do every week to enable us all to have a great evening is amazing.

Racing is staying at Southwards for the next 8 weeks so next Tuesday, 13 December 2016, we’d love to see you there.

Thanks to those who are pre-entering, it’s a great head-start on the evening’s organisation. Simply email name and preferred grade to Club Captain, Doug Barrett at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. before Tuesday mid-day.

If not pre-registered, please to do this at the club trailer at Southwards well before your race start.

Start time for adult grades will be 6.00PM with kids racing from 5.00PM. There are four grades, from Beginner through to A Grade, with the lower grade races starting first. This format gives those in the higher grades who have to travel from Wellington a bit more time to get there and warmed up before your start.

The cost to race is $5 for a licensed rider and $15 for a non-licensed rider. Every rider will be asked to produce their licence so remember to bring it with you.

If you are already licenced you are covered until 31 December 2016 so it’s time to think about your renewal for 2017. For complete new-comers you have a three race ‘trial period’ before deciding whether you would like to become part of the club, after which you must be licensed.
