Howdy folks

Here's the details of a great looking calendar for the upcoming spring/summer/autumn season.

Click HERE to see the full calendar which goes right through to the Hope Gibbons Team Time Trial in April.

As a bit of a summary...

  • There will be 36 events put on by the club over the spring/summer/autumn (+ 3 other interclub races we're involved in)
    • 3 Road Race Training / Group Rides (These serve as an introduction to group riding for new people - or a way to ease back into racing for the more experienced)  These session will also involve some skills drills and games as a refresher from our Kapiti Bike NZ Coaches.   These sessions were really popular last year and we had a number of new people come to us via these sessions.
    • 1 3 person time trial at Waikanae Beach/ Peka Peka to kick off Tuesday night racing.
    • 2 totally new concepts for our calendar - with our new Endurance Coordinator Andrew Morrison running a couple of Multi-lap rides through the Akatarawas for those wanting an introduction into endurance riding.
    • 2 Fantastic Big Day Our adventures being hosted firstly by Paul Rawlinson (at Labour weekend) and secondly by Andrew Morrison in mid December.   Both of these courses are through spectacular country and are open to all club members to have a full day adventure on different roads...   I did plan on running a third Big Day Out but have run out of time - so will save that one for after Christmas sometime (if I can fit it in somewhere around a Cape Reinga to Bluff ride I'm doing)
    • 5 races at Peka Peka leading into Taupo.   This will be a little different this year in that these races will be graded races rather than handicap races.  This means you are racing only against those that you start with - which will make for different racing and also will mean we can alter the distances for different abilities.   This is an attempt to appeal to a broader range of riders and to give a bit of variety.
    • 8 Graded races at Southward Museum - post Taupo and in the new year.   We'll also make the last Tuesday night before Christmas - the Christmas BBQ so we want people to BYO BBQ and make an evening of racing and eating to celebrate the season.  The Southward races were spectacularly popular last year (100 riders one night) - so we are upping the number we are doing their and will promote this racing to the region and especially promote the kids racing.
    • 1 Maungakotukutuku Hill climb Time Trial - on a Saturday just prior to Christmas.
    • 4 Group rides over Christmas/New Year (including the Boxing Day tootle).  Again these sessions will involve some quick skills sessions prior to the rides leaving.
    • 1 Kapiti hosted Interclub race at Te Horo (plus 3 other interclub races hosted by the other clubs)
    • 5 Handicap races at our old course of Park Ave
    • 1 - 4 person team time trial at Te Horo.   This TTT will be in the lead up to the Hope Gibbons Team Time Trial - and the thinking is that it will give teams a chance to get together and take on an event prior to heading over to the Hope Gibbons a month later.
    • 1 Individual Time Trial to the Akatarawa summit
    • 1 Club Championship Individual Time Trial at Te Horo (this will be the week after the team time trial - on the same course)
    • 1 Individual Time Trial from Waikanae to the end of Terrace Road in Reikorangi.

So - there you have it!   Plenty of exciting events to get your teeth into - and a lot of variety.   Adventure rides, race training rides, skills events, graded racing, handicap racing, criterium racing, individual time trials , team time trials, hill climbs and the new endurance rides.

Looking forward to it already..

Cheers

Adrian.
